Summary[]On January 1st, 2011, a show called House of Anubis premiered on Nickelodeon. This show tells about 9 students who live in a British boarding school. One of the girls that lives there, Joy Mercer, disappears mysteriously without anything proof to show that she was there. The same day, an American teenager who is on a scholarship, Nina Martin, who comes in her place. Joy's best friend, Patricia Williamson, suspects Nina has something to do with Joy's disappearance and will do anything to get it out of her, like making her go into the cellar and bring something back. Nina is given a locket by an old woman, Sarah Frobisher-Smythe, and finds passage ways through the house with it. She then starts uncovering a mystery with her friends, and form a group called Sibuna, Anubis backwords. Mara Jaffray is one of the students, who has a crush on Mick Campbell, but he is dating one of her close friends and roommate, Amber Millington. At the same time, Jerome Clarke is crushing on Mara. Eventually, Mick and Amber break up and Mick and Mara become very close. Mick leaves for some time to try out for a scholarship, and this is where Jerome and Mara's friendship begins. The Key Players[]Jerome Clarke[]Jerome is first shown as a manipulative and uncaring person. He seems not to care about anything if it doesn't work to his advantage. Jerome had a recycled homework business, in which he sold assignments to the lower grades for pricey amounts, even though most of the work was wrong. He lives off pranking others, which is definitely his speciality. He opened up to Mara about his past, such as the fact that he has been at boarding school since he was 5. Jerome became more involved in Sibuna at the end of Season 1. When he returned in Season 2, we met his sister, Poppy Clarke, whom he didn't tell anyone about. Jerome later found out about his father, John Clarke, who was in jail, and his dad sends him on a mission to find the Frobisher Gem. He eventually found the gem, and placed it in the Frobisher Shield and the Mask of Anubis. He is currently dating Mara, and his best friend is Alfie Lewis. Jerome is portrayed by Eugene Simon. Mara Jaffray[]Mara is first shown as very intelligent, academic, and is known as a "good girl". She grew up with sports her entire life because her parents are both athletes, even though she despises sports. Mara first rooms with Amber, and was her best friend, but roomed with Patricia Williamson after she and Amber fought over Mick. In Season 2 Joy returned and roomed with Patricia and Mara. Mara won school representative, despite tough competition from Amber. She grews closer to Jerome when Mick was away at a sports camp, but when Mick came back, Mara started to ignore Jerome, again. Mara was editor of The Jackal, a school blog and then masqueraded as popular writer Jack Jackal when she lost that position. She is shown to have good grades in chemistry and French. She dated Mick and is currently dating Jerome. Mara is portrayed by Tasie Dhanraj. You Bring Out the Best in Me: The Official Jara Manifesto[]Jerome and Mara. The good, self-righteous, hard working student and the scheming prankster. Its a long standing belief that opposites attract, and this is most definitely true for these two. Though seemingly too different, which is one of the main arguments used to combat the state of their relationship, the two do indeed make each other better people despite this. Their friendship began when Mick left the House to pursue a sports scholarship overseas. At the time, Mick and Mara had an understanding in their relationship: they weren't exactly together but it wasn't as if they didn't feel an attraction for each other. Whilst he was gone, the two began to spend more time together, and Jerome (although hesitant) begins to reveal information about his past and his less than satisfactory family life, and shows that he too has emotions. Mara listens and understands him, which is ultimately one of the things that brings them together in the end. Both of them enjoy each others company, and they really understand the other. The next year, Mara unintentionally becomes a huge part of bringing his family back together through aiding Poppy in her search and being an anchor for Jerome when he found out his dad was in prison. In fact, it is well known that John Clarke is very approving of their relationship, and upon meeting Mara automatically assumes that the two are in a relationship. She spends lots of time with Jerome, and when she thinks Mick is with someone else, Mara wanted Jerome to help make him jealous. They have a photo shoot of them doing romantic things together, and they even kiss twice. But more importantly, they have fun together and enjoy each other's company, and slowly that leads to Mara realising her love for him. Jerome said he could never deny Mara, and Mara said that she thinks that there is more to him than what meets the eye. Mara goes through somewhat of a self-realisation by the end of season 2. It takes a toll on her, having to try and upkeep her relationship with Mick, and through the help of Eddie, she starts questioning whether Mick is really the one she wants. Even Mick notices this, getting slightly angry at her avid recounts of things she was doing with him. As mentioned before, both John and Poppy are very approving of their relationship togther, revealed throughout the course of the episodes and most importantly, in the season finale. Mara comes to his father's hearing to support Jerome and they start dating at the end of Season 2, resulting in a kiss. Mara brings out a more caring, emotional side of Jerome, and he brings out a more fun, light-hearted side of Mara. They remain whole-heartedly who they are around other people, but have an undeniable chemistry when they're together, indeed bringing out the best in each other. Mara and Jerome definitely complete each other. Even though they are polar opposites, what Jerome said about them is completely true: "I guess you bring out the best of me, Mara Jaffray."
